Appeal to authority fallacy. One of your favorites.

Great, let's talk about the actual issue.

Can we agree upon the basic facts, that there has been significant cuts to scientific research funding as well as the termination of employees?

Assuming that you agree upon that, can you please explain how those cuts will help scientific research?

WIll you agree that all scientific research is not useful scientific research?

Can you agree that randomly trashing a large percentage of ongoing research is not the most efficient way to reduce waste?

Every time I see shit like this I think "DOGE over the target."

You can thank your Fauci for this-he singlehandedly boned legitimate science up the ass to protect his ass, both financially and because of his culpability in the launch of COVID and other diabolical research a huge percentage of the people in the country don't believe in or trust science any more. There is a ton of good, honest work being done out there that would benefit us that will not be done now because of that little, lying piece of shit.

Where did you read that this is being randomly accomplished? So you are saying that there is no systematic way of determining scientific research ROI?

At least a portion of the cuts are supposedly eliminating fraud and corruption.

But I haven't seen a single arrest.

Perhaps I missed it.

Perhaps you would be so kind as to share a news story about some corruption or fraud arrest.

You know, since there was so much of it, and that they have been eliminating it.

Hey, you know, you're probably right on that.

So then why are they making cuts based upon fraud, if the investigation is not yet complete?

With billions of dollars already cut, and thousands of employees already fired, is it too much to ask for the specifics?

If there is fraud and corruption, then show us.

Otherwise, it appears this is 'shooting first and aiming later'.

I hope Roux is smarter than he is letting on here. I expect him, as a man of some legal proficience, to understand how these things are handled.

For example, he seems to think it's standard procedure to allow the continuance of fraud until arrests are made. What a silly notion. Once fraud is suspected, it must be stopped pending investigation. Allowing fraud to continue while compiling evidence is not only financially foolish, it looks a lot like entrapment. Surely Roux knows about entrapment better than I. Maybe he forgot.

He might have also forgotten why briefing the public about an ongoing investigation can violate a suspect's rights. This isn't a fringe concept. After four years of Karinne Jean-Pierre refusing to comment about ongoing investigations, I'd expect our friend Roux to realize it's kind of a thing that happens all the time.

I wonder why an attorney who works in goverment would abandon basic logic, education, and decades of professional experience to promote such foolhardy ideas.

The party that couldn't understand that open borders are not good, that men competing against women is not good, that putting a brain dead senior in the position of president was not good, that pumping money into non performing schools is not good, that pumping money into foreign wars with no end is not good, that mutilating bodies of confused children in the name of gender is not good, that unelected bureaucrats running the country is not good, etc. etc. WILL SURPRISE NO ONE THAT THEY CAN'T UNDERSTAND FAIR TRADE (RECIPROCAL TARIFFS) THAT BRING BACK JOBS AND MANUFACTURING, INCREASE EMPLOYMENT, AND NOT HAVING TO RELY ON FOREIGN ADVERSARIES FOR MEDICAL OR OTHER NECESSARY SOCIETAL PRODUCTS IS

A GOOD THING.

Alarmist graph. No y axis legend. So the fucking markets (sp500 and nyse) dropped 5 percent. Considering the changes Trump is making, that is a Small reaction. Jesus, Roux relax

And where is the outrage from democrats about the waste and corruption being shown? Or apologies for hiding the fact Biden was a zombie. Why didn't the demos dig up or reveal any of the waste? Corrupt bastards, fuck em and fuck Maxine Waters. Well have Carson fuck her for reals, (with his course balls) but fuck her and her ilk metaphorically.

The gullibility factor here is palpable. When have “reciprocal tariffs” ever worked? Take your time with this. They certainly didn’t work when Trump tried during his first term. But Dear Leader says it’s A GOOD THING so it certainly must be.

Meanwhile, all the MAGATs who a few months ago were ranting ceaselessly about egg prices and gasoline are sitting back and watching the economic genius in the White House intentionally bringing on uber inflation, installing a highly regressive (look it up) tax called “tariffs,” tanking the economy potentially costing millions of jobs, destroying a lot of government services, and fucking up a whole lot of peoples’ retirement savings. But it’s A GOOD THING because he’s protecting us from ourselves.

It’s “only” 5% (today) but that’s OK because…

Good God have you had your head in the sand for the past 40-45 years??

There have been 21 market corrections since 1980.

Simmer down sunshine...

And tarriffs are absolutely a positive thing for all the reasons cited on this board.

You don't believe in fair trade? Or a strong middle class?

Or would you rather the elites keep lining their pockets at the expense of the middle class.

None of them? Really? How do you think the recession of 1982 started professor? Or how about the Great Recession of 2008? You don't think the govt was complicit in that?

As HPG mentioned, there has been way too much easy money and unfair trade.

Oh good, finally. I missed it when it was reported.

Would you mind sharing the article where the waste and corruption was shown? I've seen the cuts and I've seen the layoffs, but somehow I missed when the corruption was specified. Thanks.

From the Covid low of 2020 to its high near the end of 2024, the Dow Jones had gone up more than 100%.
lol

The Dow has now lost 10% in about 3 months.
At this point that is just a mere correction.

The markets are still WAY overvalued.

mvscal, I am fortunate. My house and other properties are paid for, I can retire but work is fun to me, so I'm still at it. Again, I'm quite fortunate.

Most others are not as fortunate. Roughly one quarter of Louisiana's population suffers from real poverty. And then another quarter are the "working poor", working minimum wage jobs or close to it, they are basically a flat tire away from dropping down to the bottom level. If you want to read more about this segment, see this from the United Way.

We need to focus our public policies on helping these populations, instead of yet another grossly obscene tax break for billionaires. 50 years of 'trickle down' hasn't worked. Let's try trickle up, or anything else. Income inequality is literally worse now than it was at the time of the French revolution.

The orange felon and the billionaires in his Cabinet certainly are not doing anything to help them, and are actively making things worse for them. That is unconscionable.

Since Trump took office my retirement accounts have lost almost
15% in value. 7% in the past two days. I’m not going to tell you the $$ value but it’s significant. Not a catastrophe…yet…but this shit show isn’t nearly over. And I’m retired so this has to last. So don’t try to tell me that it doesn’t matter or that it’s just negotiating tactics or A GOOD THING. It’s not.
