Re: Trump/GOP bullshit
You do understand that the felon has started a trade war with multiple countries, right? They are imposing tariffs on us as well. See how much American products are being bought in Canada right now, for example.
This will not end well, and it is entirely the fault of the felon.

I prefer Hondas and Toyotas. But, I’ll be much more likely to look at domestic products if the Japanese makes are costlier due to tariffs. That’s the point. What’s hard to understand about this?

We have been (and remain) at the far low end on tariff rates worldwide.

Agree. The world loved the U.S. during the Biden handler regime. They had their way with us and we gave them money as a reward.

There is no domestic supply chain. Who's going to build it? How long will this take? Who's going to pay for it? The existing one took decades upon decades to establish. How many jobs will this create? This isn't 1955, a factory that employed 2000 people back then would employ 200 now.
The whole reason it was outsourced in the first place was to drive down production cost and increase profit and affordability. This is the polar opposite.
Everyone won't be running around in coveralls banging on an anvil all day long, those days are gone.
Nobody had any idea of what they're doing, they're throwing a grenade into the machinery and hoping that when the smoke clears, some stupid paper formula will come to the rescue. The last moron to try something like that (albeit on a grander scale) was Gorby.
It's so completely silly, I have a hard time believing any of it. It has to be some silly game of brinkmanship to negotiate a new 'deal'.

From your link:
The United States, the guidance suggests, will provide nuclear deterrence against Russia but will only commit forces that are not essential for homeland security or missions related to China.
Makes perfect sense.
Misleading headline. Shocking.

Bonus question: Should we send your grandchildren to die in Ukraine or Latvia, Estonia...Lithuania? Do we have any viable strategic interests in those countries?

As for Trump starting a “trade war”, not really.
The trade war has existed for decades. We just never bothered to shoot back until now.

Yes, tariffs will have an inflationary impact...on certain foreign imports. Assuming, of course, that the targets of tariffs don't blink.Softball Bat wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 12:24 pmRoux wrote: ↑Mon Mar 31, 2025 11:00 am

I’m confused as to why our lib friends think the US should maintain some of the lowest tariffs in the world while our trade partners kick our ass with high ones.

should just leave that alone, but...
as to why our lib friends think the US should maintain some of the lowest tariffs in the world while our trade partners kick our ass with high ones.
per Google:
The United States is the world's largest consumer market, accounting for a significant portion of global consumer spending, with projections indicating it will continue to hold this position in the coming years.
Here's a more detailed look at the US's position as a consumer market:
Dominant Position:
The US is the world's largest consumer market, with a large, diverse, and wealthy population.
Global Spending Share:
The US accounts for a substantial share of global consumer spending, estimated at around 30%.
Economic Impact:
Consumer spending in the US is a major driver of the economy, accounting for roughly 70% of the US gross domestic product (GDP).
Large and Diverse Market:
The US market is characterized by its size and diversity, with over 120 million households.
Key Trends:
The US consumer market is known for its high-quality products and services.
Future Projections:
Projections indicate that the US will continue to maintain its position as the foremost consumer market on the planet.
there could be a logic of reciprocation that isn't just limited to trade that bolsters the case for having a very welcoming market.
it is a globalist POV, but there is merit.

Good info, bc.
Sadly, I linger in a perpetual state of confusion. Related to many matters.
Re: Trump/GOP bullshit
Because many (most? all?) vehicles made in the United States use imported materials that may be subject to the felon's tariffs, the vehicles made here will cost more as well.
At least per an article I read over the weekend that I cannot find now.
We'll see soon enough, I guess.
