Enjoyed “knowing” you folks
https://weather.com/storms/severe/video ... y-saturday
This morning I’ve watched several videos of the 2011 Tuscaloosa tornado to prep for tomorrow and tomorrow night’s onslaught of hail, 80 mph straightline winds, and F3 & F4 monster longtrack tornadoes that we Alabamians are being told to expect.
It’s been a good run. Got few complaints. Y’all take care of yourselves.

Can I have your motorcycle? You could wrap it in some big construction bags.

That’ll work.
Oh god! I’d rather die than encounter that manhand beast!
Thanks, Mikey. I gave all my motorcycle helmets away, so we’ll put a pillow on our noggins if shit starts flyin’.
Everyone’s a little on edge. They…whoever they are…seem to think the ingredients are all there for a really bad day/night. We usually blow the predictions off, but it seems a little more serious today. I’ve got lots of tall pines all over the place, so…

Have your Gov. call Trump. I hear he can stop hurricanes. A little rain storm shouldn't be much of a problem.
Unless, you think he's forgotten about you.

Not yet. I’m in Alabama. We get punched tomorrow afternoon and night. I may be posting from a raft in the Atlantic by Sunday morning.
Re: Enjoyed “knowing” you folks
Section of Alabama now faces level 5 threat, the highest risk for severe weather
Forecasts have placed a large portion of Alabama under the highest risk of severe weather ahead of an expected outbreak on Saturday.
About noon on Friday the National Weather Service's storm prediction center placed a large part of central Alabama under a level five risk of severe weather. The cities of Tuscaloosa, Birmingham and Selma are in the area. Gadsden and Montgomery are just outside the area, but a portion of northern Autauga County is in the area.
This marks only the third time since at least 2006, and likely in SPC history, that a level 5 risk has been issued the day before an expected outbreak, the SPC posted on X.
The entire state is under a level four threat of severe weather on Saturday, with five being the highest level of threat. All types of severe weather are possible; tornadoes with some being strong and possible long-track tornadoes, winds of up to 70 miles per hour, golf ball-sized hail and torrential rain, forecasts predict.

That’s the first I’ve seen of the raised level. Been watching the SEC tournament.
I just sent a map to my sons to where I buried the billion dollars I made in the mid-70s.
Smackie gets the 50 or 60 rare LPs I kept when I sold my collection.
Mikey, m2, Diego and Roux can have all my drag gear.
Meathead gets my bike…if he doesn’t mind it being in pieces.
If there are any readers in here, y’all can split up the roomful of books. Lotsa good stuff. Mostly history and science shit.
In case she survives and I don’t, my wife has gained a little weight the last couple years. Not a lot by any means, but maybe KC could fatten her up to where he’d want her.

Unfortunately Galinda doesn’t live in Alabamee, she’s right here smack dab on the upper east side of Manhattan, of course enjoying all the fruits and benefits of living in a sanctuary city, thanks to recent heroes such as Bill deBlasio and soon to be the King of New York once again, Andrew Cuomo.

Bad idea, you're just swapping tornadoes for whirlpools. Seeing as I live in the volcano capitol of the world, I know little of tornadoes.Sudden Sam wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 1:06 am I may be posting from a raft in the Atlantic by Sunday morning.
How do you prepare for something like that? The storybooks say hide in the basement or a doorway, but that sounds slightly underprepared. Personally I'd I'd run around like a lunatic and scream 'head for the hills OMG tornado!!'

Update, Sam?
Things have changed here. Some real gusts happening, outside chairs, plants, and stuff are being blown all over. Heard there have been some tornadoes in the state.
But we don't have anything going on compared to what you've got.

Re: Enjoyed “knowing” you folks
Some funny posts. Lovin’ it.
There’s not much you can do to prepare for tornadoes. Our house is sturdy, but no house can withstand F3 or F4 unless it’s made of concrete and buried 10 feet in the ground. I did bungee a tarp with a blanket inside it across my F150 windshield. Provided mucho entertainment to anyone watching as I was battling stout winds the entire time. 5 minute job took 30. Quite a few goddamns were spouted.
Mississippi is getting blasted right now. Probably 2-3 hours before the worst of it hits us. If the damn storms maintain their intensity (and they are suggesting they’ll get stronger due to all the sun we had ‘til an hour ago), some folks in Alabama are going to get devastated. This mess has folks more on edge than I’ve seen in quite a while.
They’re talking tornadoes staying on the ground for miles which is never good.
I’ve heard the sirens go off twice in the 13 years we’ve lived where we are now. Barely got my attention. If they go off today, Phibes was asking the procedure. All we can do is get into my closet (somewhat centrally located in house), cover our heads, hang onto Booger (my dog), and hope for the best. My neighbor, whose dad I played softball with for years, just told me they rode thru the entire neighborhood praying for everyone. They’re good folks, so I refrained from smartass comments.

These things are like a "moth to a flame" for tornados.
Hopefully, Sam has some bungee cords wrapped around the cinder blocks.

Long story.
Re: Enjoyed “knowing” you folks
You have to lobby your state for strong anti-tornado legislation. Stick a sign out front with a tornado pic and a big X through it, like in California. Then laugh about it with your friends at the cafe.Sudden Sam wrote: ↑Sat Mar 15, 2025 7:44 pm All we can do is get into my closet (somewhat centrally located in house), cover our heads, hang onto Booger (my dog), and hope for the best.
