I agree with John Madden's take that the ball hit off of Tatum and should have been ruled a TD right then and there on the field.

The problem was that only the back judge signaled TD and hence, the play was not officially ruled a TD ... on the field.

It went to "instant replay" ... which was NOT called for by NFL rules at that time. -- DOH!! --

No suprise that the eventually ruling was TD Pittsburgh.

Without a doubt the worst moment in NFL history.

Right up there with the crippled Kirk Gibson's dinger off of Eck.

I've probably mentioned before I was there at Municipal Stadium freezing my ass off and that from that day forward vowed to fight Jan Stenerud if I ever met him

Not that I recall.

How old were you at the time, 7 or 8?

Yeah, I'm sure you remember that game well enough to know who Jan Stenerud was.

I call bullshit.

I doubt you had ever even been to Municipal stadium, much less that you were at that game.

I've only mentioned it about a dozen times over the years - first game my Dad ever took me to.
And yea, I was 8 years old and frooze my ass off on Xmas eve when he was home from his last tour of Nam.

I watched Stenerud miss 2 FGs and hated him from that day forward -
I remembered Yepremian missing one in OT and thought we'd win it -
I also remember Ed Podolak playing his ass off, which is why I jumped in the Podolak thread in CFB

Alright, bonafides accepted... Bullshit o'meter called off.

Never saw a Chiefs game at Municipal, but my dad took me to see both a Royals and Spurs game there. We didn't live far, being from old NorthEast.
