Another Yankees Money Rant from a chowderhead!!

Post by Jack »

TAMPA, Fla. – Derek Jeter keeps his four World Series rings in a safe-deposit box. He doesn't need any more reminders that it's been five seasons since the Yankees won a World Series.

"It seems like it's been longer," he said.

Everywhere Jeter looks, he sees the past. Ex-Yankee Tino Martinez threw out a first pitch this week at Legends Field. Banners fly commemorating the championships. Fans thank Jeter for the memories, and he remembers they're just that: Gone but for a fistful of diamond jewelry.

In the first year of the drought, 2001, the Yankees' payroll crept over $100 million for the first time. Since that season, George Steinbrenner has spent $783,466,307 on players and has nothing to show for it.

The Slide of the Yankees

Okay, I have to correct this article.. George has made considerable money from his investment. He does have $$$$ to show for it!!!
According to Forbes magazine, Upshot: The Yankees' ROI ratio of 1.3 is highest among the big payroll teams and almost twice as high as that of the Red Sox. The Yankees are hauling in higher ticket, sponsorship and television revenue...

He has made an awful lot of money from his investment!!

Just NO RING!!!

Imagine what you would do with $783 Million!!

It is pathetic that Big George has spent like mad and has nothing to show for it. I just love the idea that if the Yankees spend way more than everyone and win the title, they get bagged for 'buying the title' and if they don't win it all, they're teased for throwing all that money down the toilet. It's lose-lose for the Yanks.

But George doesn't have a ring in this millenium and everthing is good, right?
We make a lot of money, but we bet a lot of money.

I'd be willing to bet $2,500 you speak with a high-pitched lisp, you sick, twisted lil' retard.

and furthermore...

I believe the reason for the Yankees demise is lack of pitching talent evaluation...

The Yankees have been lazy in evaluating talent and have overspent for past performance instead of seeing potential and developing it..

They have also ignored the injury histories and have paid for it!!

Cases in Point..

Kevin Brown- He had past success, Yankees overpaid for him and he turned out to be a $15.7 million/ year BUST!

Carl Pavano - Contract $9 Million/ year- Injured way too often and when not injured he's a 10 game winner= BUST

Jaret Wright - is his time on the bench worth $5.6 Million/ year = BUST

***
Imagine any other team that could WASTE $29 million on 3 total losers..

**

How about Mike Mussina, is he worth $19 million/ year?? Last year, he won 13 games and the year before that, he won 12!! ***

Jack no one's arguing those facts, however how come people didn't rip him for spending millions of dollars in the 80's and have nothing to show for it. No matter what he does people will rip him. He has a lot of money so what's he supposed to do with it? At least he's trying to win which is a lot more that can be said for some of the billionaire owners who don't give a shit about winning, have the tax payers finance their new stadiums, and the team still sucks. Like him or not if George weren't around Sox fans would have nothing to talk about.

Lax, George has always been ripped and deservedly so!!

and if you read the details of my post.. I acknowledge that his ridiculous spending is not so stupid when it comes to financial return.

The Yankees get the best ROI (return on investment) of any team.
The money that George has put into the Yankees has increased the VALUE ($$$$) of the team considerably... I just have to laugh that he has outspent most of the league 3 to 4 to 5 or more times over and

THE YANKEES STILL haven't won a World Series Ring in over 5 years..

They spend their money on ballplayers but not wisely IMO (in terms of winning baseball) . The Yankees have picked up too many players that have succeeded in the MLB but are past their prime (for the $$$ the Yankees are paying!)... but they do have the STAR names!!

The Yankees need to look at potential and grow it instead of looking at past results and hope they continue.... (if the real goal is a WS Ring!! and not just more $$ for George)

I agree that they've spent money in a manner that doesn't seem to be working. Look back from 96 on and the nucleus of their team was their own product. Very rarely did they venture out into the FA market and sign a big name guy. I don't like what he's doing because a lot of the guys he's signed are way over priced IMO. Kevin Brown was a train wreck from the get go. Giambi hasn't panned out like they thought. Mussina isn't worth half the mony he's getting paid, among others. I'd like to see them firm up their farm system instead of going after the big name FA's that are past their prime. But why does he deserve to be ripped? He's trying to win and if I'm a fan that's what I want my owner to do.

Lax,

Which one would you root for? Not which one you would bet on!

That's a bad comparison because there are a lot of owners out there who refuse to invest in their teams. All of these owners are billionaires who refuse to spend millions. George puts out money for his corporation.

I'll go you one better....you own a company and want to hire employees. Who do you hire? The person who is going to get your company to the top and get you a return on your investment and have to pay that person a lot of money or will you hire the lowest paid person who won't help you at all.

To answer your question...it depends. I was rooting for George Mason the other day, but I'll continue to root for the Yankees because I've been doing so for my entire life.

Did I really just read a "payroll rant" from a fan whose team has the highest ever payroll of a World Series champion? Did I really just read a payroll rant from a fan whose team has 7.5 mil/year middle reliever in Keith Foulke? Did I really just read a payroll rant from a fan whose team has tried flat out releasing a 20 mil/year player, and yet, is stuck with him because the only other team out there who could afford him didn't pluck him off of the fucking waiver wire? Did I really just read a payroll rant from a fan whose team took on a 9 mil/year player in a trade as an afterthought because only one other team in baseball could afford to overpay for .230 batting 3B who had 8 fucking HRs last year? Irony thy name is stupid gash-gushing Red Sox Fan.

I can... almost.

Lowell -- 9 million
Renteria -- 4 million =====> BAWAHAHAHA**
Foulke -- 7.5 million

Granted... it only adds up to 20.5 million... but at least the Yankees aren't paying losers to play for another team.

**In 2009, the Sox will be on the hook for an additional 3 mil if his option is DECLINED. That's right, if Atlanta thinks 10 mil/year is too much for this stiff and TURNS DOWN the option year, THE BLOW SOX owe Rent-A-Wreck 7 MILLION!! =====> BAWAHAHAHAHA.

Imagine any other team stupid enough... and with deep enough pockets to pay someone 7 MILLION DOLLARS NOT TO PLAY FOR THEM? =====> BAWAHAHAHA.

Drew Henson anyone? Can't think of another team that would give a minor leaguer 17 million for 9 major league at bats........

Your team has the 2nd or 3rd highest payroll every year. Your team has the highest paid middle reliever in the game. Your team has the most overpaid 3rd baseman in baseball. Your team OUTRIGHT RELEASED a 40 HR/130 RBI machine and NO ONE else claimed him.

Your team can afford to make HUGE payroll mistakes that 93.5% of the rest of teams in MLB cannot.

Red Sox fan is not allowed to cunt up this forum in regards to payroll issues. Your team is a have... not a have-not. Shut your gash.

I never said they weren't a have. I think that the Sox if given a choice would spend less. They do however play in the same division as the Yanks which I think contributes to them having to spend a decent amount to be competitive. Keith Foulke's contract is based on him being a closer so I don't think it's too high. BJ Ryan got bigger bucks then Foulke and he doesn't even have the track record of Foulke. Lowell is alot of money but please tell me who the Sox starting 3rd baseman has been for the first three games? To say that they won't get their moneys worth for him is premature. What I was trying to say is that the Yanks can afford to make more mistakes. Drew Henson, Steve Karsay, and Sterling Hitchcock are prime examples. What is your point about Manny being put on waivers? THey tried to get rid of him to get out from under a contract that the previous owners signed. So in esscence they were trying to decrease their payroll. Is that bad? Both teams can make big mistakes that others can't. Both payrolls are disgusting......

Damn I love that station!! I was never questioning your main point. It was the contention that the Yanks have never payed someone to play somewhere else........
