On line computer classes?

Post by Mister Bushice »

Anyone here ever take one? I've been wanting to take a few classes in PHP software coding, but I travel too much. An internet based class would be perfect for my schedule, but I have no idea where to look for a decent one that has an open ended time frame ( meaning instead of a semester and strict deadlines you go at your own pace.)

For PHP, get a book, and go through it, doing all of the example programs and the like. If you've had any experience with C syntax, you'll find PHP to be a breeze.

Although...actually being able to code with PHP is not that big of a thing, when you see all of the stuff available in the open source world. There's no need to reinvent the wheel.

There kind of is with a custom made site.

I have some books, was looking for something video or audio descriptive to support those.

DO I need C syntax knowledge? I don't have that.

There are some online sites such as elementK and others that do video and demonstrations of just about any software and IT info out there. They aren't cheap but a good quick way to learn. They aren't really affiliated with any school, so don't expect degrees from them. We get it free with my job and every once in a while I use them. Fairly decent.

element k and others? what others? I found a couple, but I'd rather go with a recommendation if possible.

ElementK is hands on type thing. Basically they kind of demonstrate how you do a task or two and then they have you perform it in a virtual environment. I've done a few of their 'classes' and liked them.

Atomic Learning takes the video type teaching. They create videos and demonstrations about their topics and so you learn by watching instead of necessarily by doing. Of course the videos are all online.

Another option might be to get access to technical books online such as with Safari online.
