I got a buddy out here who played for Bo Ryan in the early 00s, he claims the team is basically made up of freshmen and sophomores this year. Honestly couldn't remember the last time tOSU beat Wisky in bball by double digits, not to mention it was at the Kohl Center.

I think there's a coaching dropoff. Bo Ryan won no matter the personnel. Plus I'm not sure youth is that big of a deal these days in college basketball. Michigan State starts four sophomores and a freshman.

You might be right. I would argue that Ryan was always a 'system' guy and relied heavily on developing players rather than recruiting blue chip one-and-doners (Frank Kaminsky comes to mind as a poster for this model). I can never remember Ryan having a roster filled exclusively with freshmen and sophomores without some experienced upperclassmen mixed in there. And if he did, I certainly can't remember a youthful UW team being tops in the B10.

Anyways, Goober's the one that should set the record straight in here, they're not my team. My buddy seems to think Gard is the right guy, given he was Ryan's longest running assistant going back to before (they) were in Madison. Time will tell I guess. As an aside, I've heard that Indiana fans are pissed they didn't get tOSU's Holtman. So I guess we'll see what happens there also.

Suppose this probably belongs in another forum. But just to keep it here for another minute, that Wisky Hornibrook QB kinda looks like a left-handed version of Brooks Bollinger. Neither could throw a good pass.

Wisky lost 4 starters. Other than Happ, the junior class hasn't panned out. They've lost a number of close games playing mostly freshmen and sophomores, but I think Magoo knows that Wisky does not get the 5 star freshmen that Sparty does. Gard will do fine, people have to be patient.

Bollinger was a running QB. I believe he still holds the school rushing record for quarterbacks. FWIW, I'm pretty sure tOSU game was Hornibrook's first loss as a starter.

Freshman wing Kobe King will miss the rest of the season, leaving the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team without a key reserve in the backcourt.

According to a news release, King is scheduled to undergo knee surgery on Monday. The La Crosse native injured his left knee in practice Friday, a day before the Badgers fell to 4-7 with an 82-63 loss to Marquette on Saturday.

Sophomore point guard D’Mitrik Trice also is set for surgery on Monday. Trice is out with a right foot injury. UW coach Greg Gard said Monday on the Big Ten coaches teleconference that Trice will be out for “a while.”
