he's been unlistenable since jackie got run. going to sirius to allow full on pottymouthing hasn't changed this.

F Jackie.

I was a big fan of the channel 9 show back in the day. Haven't listened to the show since they made the switch to Sirius, only because it was inconvenient for me.

Adam West dressed as a French sailor at the gay "dance-off" with Gay Ramone was probably one of my favorite "E! channel" moments, even though I didn't care for the production of that program too much.

I thought the same thing at first, but then noticed that post jackie, the show went down hill, which leads me to believe he may have been responsible for a good deal of the funnay.

His replacement, artie, sure as fukk wasn't. Obnoxious loud NYer is by itself, very unfunny. And that is all he brought. Well apparently he also brought a serious drug/mental problems, but, unfortunately that didn't transfer into laughs either.

Jackie left the show and the show lost the funny...not because he left the show.

I was glad the Jokeman exited. Everything about him was unbearable.

The first two years at Sirius were okay. After that it became tedious.
I still enjoy the Howard Stern message boards.

The funniest thing about Jackie, was the jokes made ABOUT him. I also loved the way he laughed at his own material.

Artie was a fat pain in the ass, but he was deece fodder until he couldn't take the jokes anymore.

If you ever get the the chance, or are like super bored or whatever, youtube some of the channel 9 shows. Good for some old school laughs.

The Channel 9 and E-Show material is incredibly dated. It just doesn't hold up.
Unless you're looking for a good cringe, seeing Howard in black-face ain't my thing.

But I'll agree, "Gay Dance Party" with musical guests The Goo Goo Dolls was hilarious.

I don't know. Maybe I'm just subconsciously trying to justify paying for radio, but I think the show has been better than ever since they came to Sirius. I was a little worried about the cursing at first, since part of the terrestrial show's charm was hearing them try to get around the restrictions. But I barely even notice it anymore. Now, they just talk like normal adults.

I really don't understand the Jackie > Artie argument. Drug addict or not, Artie was the best thing to happen to that show. Artie half-awake on heroin is still funnier than 99.9999% of anyone else on the radio, and the other 0.0001% is Howard. As a stand-up, he's mediocre, but what made Artie so indispensable was how quickly and consistently he could come up with the perfect one-liners off the cuff. I've never heard anyone better at that, other than maybe his good friend Norm MacDonald. I mean, a line like "Waaaah! My rapist didn't use a condom. Waaaah!" is hilarious even taken completely out of context. Whenever I catch one of the old, pre-Artie shows, it just reaffirms how much better he was than Jackie. And his rapport with George Takei was fantastic.

Overall, Howard has made me laugh out loud more than any other person on the planet. For that alone, he's my favorite entertainer of all time. I could be having the shittiest day of my life, but if I turn on Howard, I'm gonna end up laughing in spite of myself.

I think Chris Rock nailed it when he pointed out that comedians usually come up with about an hour of material every year, while Howard does 4-5 hours a day, 3-4 days a week. Not everything works every time, but if you distilled Howard's best material down to an hour a year, he's the funniest motherfucker in the world.

I saw Jackie at a local radio station promotion a buddy of mine won tickets for. It was seriously the most UN-funny 90 minutes I have ever seen. Then again, I have never found Stern that compelling to begin with.

See, I dunno? Inviting Richard Simmons and a couple of his obese "deal-a-meal" clients on the show to talk about their success, and then dangling bags of potato chips and snacks in front of their faces with fishing poles as they answer questions will never not be funny to me.

I just always loved Stern's reaction to people and events more than anything.

When I first logged on to SCIII, I thought that board would basically be an online version of Rome's show. How wrong I was.

Technically, the nic isn't appropriate, since I don't really live in Crapchester, but a small town between Crapchester and Buffalo.

Well besides his amazing one-liners, which I already mentioned, he also brought the "everyman" element to the show. He was a great counter-balance to Howard's faggy/elitist tendencies. He's a dock worker from Jersey who likes to drink, smoke, curse, leer at hot chicks and watch sports. In other words, he's the archetypal listener. When Howard would go on for too long about American Idol or The Bachelor, Artie was always there to keep him in check.

Jess, you are a good dude and anybody that's ever met you will agree. Like a Philly sports audience, you get piled-on/booed because it's to make you a better person. A board needs its (fill in the blank).

BTW, Tim Tebow is a virgin also. However, he has his looks, real money, and not much of a future.

And?

Sadly, despite all of the "amazing characteristics" you list, he's still not funny. He's... awful. I remember being disappointed that his 2004 death was a hoax. I stopped listening to the show shortly thereafter. However, after some googling... I just found out he's no longer on. I'm more of an O and A type of guy these days, but maybe I'll give Stern another shot.
