Yankees need to trade Alex Rodriguez to Oakland or Detroit
They could also get a prospect or two in the deal. It's time.
The Yankees need a frontline starter like Zito in the rotation and moving Rodriguez would be the perfect packaged deal. Dude is a wreck and can't hack it in New York. With his natural ability he can put up the numbers such as the ones he put up last year, but in crunch time he chokes. He would be better suited for the left coast on a team like Oakland whose fans don't give a shit. Or, send him packing to the Tigers for one of their young pitchers like Verlander or some shit, plus another bat. The Tigers need a bat desperately, and the Yankees need to remove a cancer and get a front line starter. Everybody wins.
The longer New York keeps Alex Rodriguez the longer they will have to wait for championship # 27.

Local radio talked about A-Rod hypothetically being dealt to the Tigers. He would cost the team a ton in salary and the Yankees would want a ton in return. The Tigers could slot him into third for sure but the amount of resources it would take to get him would be mind-boggling. I think YankeeFan probably wants him out of town more than Steinbrenner and Cashman do so I don't think a deal is coming any time soon.

They'd want at least a starter (probably one already up in the bigs) an outfielder (Thames or Monroe) and a couple of prospects (we are loaded). I would love to have a prolific bat in the lineup but A-rods post season stats suck. Money should be no object to Illitch as the Wings are now on a cap and the Tigers will draw close to 3 million this year and it looks like the team will be good for the next few years at least.

The Yanks already had Thames, didn't they?
A-Rod doesn't have what the Yankees need. They need some grit, someone like Paul O'Neil, someone who gives a shit when he strikes out. It seems that A-Rod is more glamour than anything else. He's a pretty boy and doesn't have what it takes to win. I think Dave Winfield has been replaced as Mr. May.

Well let's give A-Rod 20 years and 5 teams and see if he also nads up...eventually.Yer a Fuckin Jerkoff wrote:Hell even Winfield nadded up eventually in the playoffs ('92)Laxplayer wrote: I think Dave Winfield has been replaced as Mr. May.

This is without a doubt the stupidest fucking thread I have ever read. The Yanks currently have 80 HR's and 200+ RBI's on the DL in Shef, Cano and Godzilla. I'm sure they'll go and trade away 40 more HR's and 130 more RBI's.
What's E-Rod's problem? He lost his protection in the line up with those two on the DL. He had Giambi and Mat's hitting behind him and Shef in front of him. Now Giambi is hitting 3rd and Posada is hitting behind him, big difference some?

^^^ Agreed. While I'm well aware that there are a number of very good ballplayers who, for whatever reason, couldn't cut it as Yankees, ARod is not among that group. This is a guy two seasons removed from an MVP he won as a Yankee, for Chrissakes.
Even if you did trade him, your options are limited. Only a contender would take on that contract. And ARod would probably veto any trade to the National League. Why trade him to a team you're likely to meet up with in the playoffs? And either of the teams suggested in the title of this thread would have serious payroll problems in taking on his salary.
In a vacuum, if I were to move any of the Yankees, I would move Shef. Seems to me that between Melky, Godzilla, Phillips and Giambi, Shef will be the odd man out, and probably won't be on the team next year. Having said that, moving him right now is problematic, in that 38-year-olds on the DL generally don't command a lot in return trade value.

It's just another example of YankeeFan's unrealistic expectations. I'll never feel sorry for the Yankees or a guy making the money he makes but they do have key guys out of the lineup for an extended period of time, like Terry mentioned. He's got to be grinding under the pressure. With guys like Sheffield, Matsui and Cano out of the lineup, the attention turns to those still playing and the Yankees still have a nice team even without the absences. Cabrera has been a solid fill in in the outfield and the starting pitching has been respectable...Mussina, Wang, Johnson and Rivera have held that staff together quite well. If you never looked at the standings, you would've sworn the Yankees were out of the race but instead, they are 2-1/2 back in the division and 1-1/2 back in the wild card. YankeeFan needs to stop gripping and when they get Cano and Matsui back soon, they'll be more than equiped to make a postseason push.

Yeah, but with runners in scoring position in the 8th inning or later with less than 3 outs in a one or two run game where the Yankees are losing during the day where the night will have a blue moon....he is batting .145 with 3 RBIs, all solo shots.JCT wrote:From cnnsi article today:
Going into Monday's game at Texas, Rodriguez was batting .277 and slugging .499. With runners in scoring position he was batting .295 and slugging .554, and with runners in scoring position and two outs he was batting .306 and slugging .551.
Yeah, they should trade him.

I hate doing this because defending anything Yankee makes me want to dust out the old rebel flag......however, being that I have this obsession with accuracy may I provide everyone with the season stats of 2 major league 3rd baseman up through yesterday. We shall call them dude 1 and dude 2.
Hits--Dude 1 has 118, Dude 2 has 102
Home Runs--They both have 21
RBIs--Dude 1 has 80, Dude 2 has 72
Walks--Dude 1 has 43, Dude 2 has 54
Avg--Dude 1 is .317, Dude 2 is 279
SBs--11 vs. 9
Dude 1 has been shoved down our throats all year as the next Scott Rolen and a perennial 30-100 guy.
Dude 2 is the youngest player player in history to get to 450 home runs, is a multiple MVP (although Big Papi got JOBBED last year), and is widely considered one of if not the best player in the game.
Dude 1 is a nice player but has no prayer of EVAR being the overall force of Dude 2. Yet, dude 1 is supposedly the greatest thing since sliced bread while dude 2 is being run out of town.
Funny that they both play in the same God-forsaken toilet bowl of a city.
The moral of the story is Las Vegas Yankeefan seems to have a lot more wits about him than NYC Yankeefan.
Just putting some perspective on things...
