Harold Reynolds fired from ESPN

Post by Bizzarofelice »

Does this mean more laughable takes from Tino and Brantley?

ESPN FIRES REYNOLDS

By ANDREW MARCHAND

July 25, 2006 -- ESPN yesterday fired analyst Harold Reynolds from Baseball Tonight, sources told The Post. The reason was not immediately known.

"We are not going to comment," ESPN VP Josh Krulewitz said.

When asked how they are going to explain that Reynolds will never be on the air again, Krulewitz still declined comment.

Reynolds did not return calls.

Reynolds, 45, had been with ESPN 11 years. He had been a fixture on the show, which is a gathering spot for baseball fans, players and team executives.

The program already is dealing with the loss of information man Peter Gammons. Gammons is recovering from a brain aneurysm that occurred at the end of last month. The show's main analysts had been Reynolds, Gammons and John Kruk.

In Gammons' absence, ex-Met GM Steve Phillips has played a bigger role on the show. The program uses several analysts, including Orel Hershiser, Tino Martinez and Jeff Brantley.

Last night, host Karl Ravech was joined by Kruk and Phillips. Reynolds usually is on Monday nights.

Reynolds was known for a smooth style that usually was player friendly. He never found himself in too much controversy for what he said on the air. In fact, ESPN was so high on him he was expected to stay with the network through its just signed eight-year deal with MLB.

Now, after yesterday, Reynolds is no longer welcome in Bristol.

Fucking craptastic. Reynolds was one of the very few remaining voices of reason still employed by ESPN. Baseball Tonight with no Reynolds and Gammons? Pssshaw!!

I really thought Reynolds was "tolerable" and by ESPN's standards (according to me), that meant he was "good". yeah, he tries to go Chris Rock sometimes, but for the most part, I liked the guy.

So, he either sexually harrassed someone or he knocked someone the fuck out.

Hopefully he knocked Brantley, Berman, Stu Scott, Michael Irvin and Steve Phillips the fuck out.

This sucks. Harold was one of the only few people on ESPN I could stand b/c he was knowledgeable and didnt make himself the story. Typical fucking ESPN. That think is going down the shitter.

I think Steve Phillips should hold a mock press conference to discuss it.

I hope they'll bring back a relaxed and tanned Roy Smalley.

Too bad. For those of us who aren't "students of the game", Reynolds actually brought some different and interesting perspectives, especially as it related to breaking down plays.

I never really had a problem with H.R. but Baseball Tonight has seemingly an endless supply of analyst at their disposal. I'm looking forward to seeing Gammons back on soon...miss his inside info around the deadline.

Reynold was the best analyst in the game-imo.

They can't be doing my U&L homies like that.

I wonder if the Mariners have called him yet? I'm guessing he has a job with them/FSNW whenever he wants...just a guess.

He won't be out of a job long. Good luck HR. He'll get a nice severence package from ESPN.

Great call IF. Early whispers are sexual-harrassment.

(UPDATE: Another reader, with "contacts on the inside," refutes the sexual harassment whispers: "Anyone who is saying sexual harassment either has been given bad third-hand info or is lying. Harold has had a couple of rather heated arguments with the producers at "Baseball Tonight," and some of the suits at ESPN over the program's coverage of Alex Rodriguez. At the last production meeting, when it was made clear they were going to really play up the A-Rod angle during coverage of the Yankees-Texas series, Harold had a colossal meltdown, which led to his dismissal. The sexual harassment allegations are even more laughable when you consider that he is being replaced by Steve Phillips -- a man who has never met a skirt he wouldn't chase and who was caught in one of the more embarrassing front office sexual harassment scandals in MLB history."

True? Not true? This, like the rest of it, just reinforces our point: We don't know. And the longer ESPN pretends like nothing happened, like they're a corner shop with three employees, believing this stuff can possibly remain private, the more talk there will be. Still, this is the lone "it's not sexual harassment email" we've received.)

Looks like I am not alone on this one. Completely shocked and disappointed. In a world of absolute horridness that is ESPN, Reynolds was completely enjoyable.

That much less of a reason now to watch those idiots.

Well, if WolverineSteve's link holds to be true, I was right all along. I GOD DAMN KNEW there was no way this guy could be shown the door unless he had some kind of sex harrassment on tape or he knocked someone the fuck out.

My money, on him being an "uppity" bro, would have been him just busting someone in the chops. Maybe he took it a step further.

Maybe it was because He is Black!!

His greatest career accomplishment??

Harold Reynolds grounded out to end the game when the Chicago White Sox played their last ever game at Old Comiskey Park at 1:30 pm Sunday, September 30, 1990. They defeated the Seattle Mariners 2-1.

Playing grab-ass with interns isn't nearly enough to get you fired from ESPN. Mike Tirico made threatening phone calls to one production assistant and was gently escorted to ABC where he has a nice cushy golf gig. And he may still be doing Thursday night football on ESPN.

this is a network that employs Gary Miller (public urination), Michele Tafoya (throwing a beer in the face of a fan) and Michael Irvin ("Do you know who I am?"), fer chrissake.

What I heard from [Zyclone]my source in the biz[/Zyclone] this morning is that he was a serial offender. Management gave him the old Bobby Knight style "i'm giving you just one more chance" treatment and ol' H.R. couldn't help himself.
