Extra Inning question?

Post by Jack »

Does anyone know what happens in an extra inning game when a team has used all of it's players and can no longer substitute a player?

Does the last pitcher have to pitch until he loses?

Can a team play with less than 9 players?

I can't find this..

I remember the Mets playing a long extra inning game years ago and Ron Darling went into right field.
Hint,
Don't use all of your bench players.

Usually a position player ends up pitching in that situation. I was at a game once when Brent Mayne, a catcher, pitched in a long game and actually ended up being the winning pitcher. The game goes on until completed although I think the AL has a curfew where an inning can't begin past a certain time in the middle of the night.........

Un-freaking-believable!

The teams are fortunate that they have the All-Star break ahead of them but those two clubs happen to have several All-Stars on the roster. If I were the managers, I'd empty pen for sure. The White Sox had the luxury of a sixth starter in their pen and they could throw McCarthy for 4 innings plus.

Based loaded for the White Sox with one out just as we speak...this one looks like it's about to go final. Too bad the Tigers lost today.
