Soriano is a dope for not doing what the team tells him to do and the Nationals were fools to make the move in the first place...both sides are wrong. The Nationals should trade him to a team that needs a second baseman and cut their losses. Clearly, Soriano won't re-sign with them next winter so get something for him now and don't let this become a major distraction in the clubhouse.
While I don't agree with Soriano, I understand why he's doing this. Think about it.
An outfielder with his numbers will not make the All-Star team.
An outfielder with his numbers won't be picked in the top 7 rounds of ANY fantasy baseball league.
An outfielder with his numbers won't make any covers of magazines.
An outfielder with his numbers won't get jack shit for endorsements.
I know he couldn't give a shit about fantasy drafts, but the fact he's in the top of any league means he is rated at the top of that position, no matter how shitty he is in the field. It's all about $. At 2B, he gets MUCH more cash that he would being an outfielder. Plain and simple.
Look at Biggio. With Kent leaving the Astros, he moved back to 2B. His stock was much higher with the numebrs he put up at 2B than it was when he was inthe OF.
I think Soriano should play wherever they need him. However, his reasons for not wanting to do so are certainly understandable.
By the way, ESPN is now reporting he will be in the lineup and has agreed to play today. Not very surprising how anyone will change their tune when you threaten their livelyhood.
Alfonso apparently has decided that it doesn't suck to go out to left field
and play, earning $10 mil,
instead of sitting at home and not getting paid this year. :P

And I'm sure he'll give his absolute best effort patroling left field.
