That sounds like a great deal, actually. The HD is pretty small, but that's exactly the part of the system that I'd cut if possible to lower the price. For my laptop, I held out for a large HD, but of course I still ended up needing to use an external HD anyway.

bump up the hard drive size to 80 and go with XP pro.

Also, you might consider an extended warranty. Laptops take more abuse than Desktops.
All that will up the price though.

My Sony VAIO is nearly a year old, I've used the warranty twice. Damn glad I had one.

As for the HD...think about how you will use your storage space, and how much extra gigage costs. You can get external USB storage for pretty damn cheap.

Yeah, I took down the hardrive as we also have a desktop that I will use for larger items (that and burning DVD back ups). My wife will be using it for school and we will take it on trips but nothing else.

damn, I'm looking at Dell's site now...that's a darn good deal. If I could buy another laptop now, I'd definitely go for a Pentium M as opposed to a Pentium 4. I'm a slave to the AC power source.

Whew, I literally just bought it and then saw your post. I was just hoping it wasn't bad news. Hopefully I am that lucky as it is set to arrive on the 23rd of December which really means the 5th of Jan.

I build my own PCs for home use but when it comes to laptops/notebooks Dell is th eonly thing I recoomend for my clients. When Compaq and HP merged it was like Benz-Chrysler all over again. One great product destroyed by another. The Dell outlet is even a great buy. You can't go wrong with the Dell.
