Goal horns for all 30 NHL teams and quite a few AHL teams as well:

I'm pumped for NHL 06 coming out next Tuesday. All of the new rules will be instituted accept the salary cap. I played the demo last week, the hitting is toned down and you're actually able to be create offensively. I looks like a much improved game.

Basically from what I have read, if you like a sim style game get NHL 2k6, for fun get NHL 2006. The 2k series is good but the graphics are lacking and every year there is some stupid bug that should have been taken care of (freezing at .1 second in a period, franchises freezing up if you have CPU trading turned on, etc.)

I prefer my hockey games to be fun even if the realism isn't 100% perfect. NHL 2006 is priced at $30 for the consoles this year and also includes NHL 94 (PS2 only), one of the best hockey games of the Genesis/SNES era.

Picked up NHL06 today, haven't had this much fun with a hockey game since NHLPA 93 came out. All of the rules changes are there (no 2 line pass, touch up offside, no touch icing (completely forgot you don't get a line change if you ice the puck!)) The goals have been varied from both me and the CPU, one timers, snap shots, goal mouth scrambles, redirections from the point, etc.

Only issue so far is that the CPU doesn't call alot of penalties. I had the only penalty in a game against Dallas in OT, they proceeded to score on the ensuing power play.

I like how they did the franchise this year, the owner's wishes seem realistic (Kings want to get the Pacific Division crown, Hawks want to make as much money as possible, Detroit wants to win the Stanley Cup etc.) Another nice feature added for the franchise is that you can intervene in a simmed game, jumping in the 3rd period to take over. (You get a nice $ bonus for pulling it off which you can spend on various parts of your team)

No lame skybox like 2k6, all of the old school jerseys are there without having to wait to rack up points.

(for the Kings its 67 home, 80 home, 88 home and away, and the current versions)

I got my NHL 06 (PC) in the mail today. Played only one game so far...much improved gameplay but I usually like to tweak the AI so the shot totals and the amount of hitting is more realistic. I hope in 2007 they can institute the salary cap...they've got every other rule change in this year's game. I even got the goalie delay of game penalty for handling the puck out of the area behind the net. It's a much improved game from last year. I'm very happy with the purchase.

The one thing that bugs me is that the Wings don't have Babcock as their coach. They've got a guy that looks like Dave Tippett behind the bench...I'm wondering if that's supposed to be Lewis. I'd be curious to see who is coaching Dallas.
