the 2025 papal conclave, call it!

Post by Roux »

On Wednesday, 133 Cardinals will meet in the Sistine Chapel to elect a new pope.

I'm not Catholic but this process has always fascinated me, probably in part because it is so secretive, but also because the Pope is one of the most influential people on the planet. This is a Big Deal.

And of course, people are betting on the outcome. Per The Economist, here are the current odds for the top 10 likely contenders:

Image

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle of the Philippines might be the most "liberal" of the contenders, and for that reason I don't think he gets it. But he probably will get some nice appointment.

Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana is more conservative and is from the continent of Africa, where the Catholic Church is expanding. But I just don't see a black Pope now.

I'm going with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, who is the frontrunner. But that's not always a good thing, as there is an old saying "He who enters the conclave as Pope, leaves it as a Cardinal". Parolin was the Secretary of State for the Vatican, but most importantly (to me), he is from Italy.

If not Parolin, then I think Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa will get it. He's also from Italy, and wow what a name.

I agree with your assessment Roaeioux! The black conservative cardinal from Africa is your typical Uncle Tom and should not be allowed in the race until he conforms to a more virtuous and giving version of the Gospel.

I’m with you, I think Junior Soprano gets the vote!

I'm thinking Dear Leader may seriously be considering making a run at this. Part of some kind of bucket list. Still on the list:

Kennedy Center Honors
Motion Picture Academy Lifetime Achievement
Nobel Prize

Plus, if he could pull this off then all Catholics would be required to support him or else burn in Hell for eternity.
The Vatican might be renamed Da Mare al Lago, and could become a real money maker.

The most libtarded pederast will win. Francis has stacked the College. There won't be a "conservative" pope or even anything close.

Whichever freakshow clown is chosen, he is supposed to be the last pope anyway.

Rack Mikey.
Fr. Guido has done good things; like the 5-minute university and explaining how we pay for our sins, ie "it's a cheap sin but can mount up in a period of time.
"So let it be written; so let it be done."
