what? You mean about Hell on Wheels.? I'm not panning it. There are major points to the credit of the actors and the production is nice in terms of being a dramatization of the history of the railroad. It's ok.

First off, check out who played the character named Elam Ferguson. 8)

Secondly, the character named Eva was pretty true to the actual woman. Interesting story.

Yep! You won fair and square.

Final Gambit was the 3 horse and 5 came out of the gate and completely destroyed 3. Gambit was so far in last place out of the gate that he couldn't recover. I let the rain and the sloppy track mess with my picks. Looking forward to the next two races to redeem myself.

I'd be remiss if I didn't RACK the winners, HPG and Kubla.

HPG, though, is just cleaning up the :bode: around here again.

His new av should have a mint julep wytched in. Well, Kubla's too, for that matter.

If there's a tie-breaker, it'd go to HPG for having TWO horses in his picks that monied.

Horse racing rules provide for ties, called a dead heat, in which case the prize money from the win and show pools is used for the payouts.

HPG definitely had a good Derby in picking the winner and tying for first. But Roach was the only participant to get on the board with two horses.

I didn't understand the scoring.

Isn't first pick w/p/s, second pick p/s and third pick s? Or something?

It would be, if the bet was "$2 across the board", which is actually three $2 bets: $2 to win, $2 to place, $2 to show. And so picking three horses, you actually would be making 9 bets. That's how Pickle and I bet in our hypothetical $100 bet.

But for the purposes of this contest, and how I did it last year, it is a single bet on a horse to win, a single bet on another horse to place, and a single bet on another horse to show.

It is easier to score that way, and as you pointed out, even then I messed it up.

If the horse you pick to win actually wins, then you get paid. But not if he places or shows.*

If the horse you pick to place comes in first or second, then you get paid. But not if he shows.*

If the horse you pick to show comes in first, second, or third, you get paid.*

*which is how it actually works at the track.
