The gist of the link is that now countries will line up over the next 90 days to make trade deals with the U.S., and this will be very good for the U.S.
My response...

When negotiating, it is advantageous to deal from a position of strength.
Trump had initially placed a 37% tariff on Serbia.
Now it is a 10% tariff on Serbia.

Rhetorical question...
When negotiating with Serbia, wouldn't it be a stronger negotiating position to have a 37% tariff in place, and negotiate from there, rather than having a 10% tariff in place, and negotiating from there?

Everyone (countries around the world) saw Trump cave on his initial draconian tariff positions.
They can plainly see that he caved because his people informed him that the U.S. bond market was beginning to crater, and it would a full-blown economic crisis.
The effect is that Donald has clearly weakened his negotiating position, because the U.S. is facing serious economic pressure due to the original course Don set forth on.

Everyone (countries around the world) can also see that this U.S. President is making things up as he goes, and is surrounded by lemming yes-men who roll out and prop up every insane idea the president decides upon.
Confidence is shot, and nobody (countries around the world) can predict with any certainty at all what the environment will be like in 90 days, or before 90 days.
Manufacturing is not coming back in this environment, and deals will also not be happening.

Why would countries deal in good faith with an individual such as D. Trump?

It is at 4.553 as I type.
It was at this level (actually a bit lower) the other day when Donny rolled out and changed course with his tariff paln.

Equities have fallen into the red.

I'd pay attention to the bond market, but it is bedtime for me.

The 10 yr treasury yield jacked up to almost 4.6% on Friday, before settling down to end the trading day at 4.497%.

This is disturbing for a couple reasons.

1. It is elevated to the same level it was when Dump opted to cave on his original tariff paln.

2. This is more disturbing than #1. The 10 yr yield and the U.S. dollar are known to move in the same pattern. Yield goes up, dollar goes up. Yield goes down, dollar goes down.
But as you can see from this chart, the pattern has been broken.







In uncertain economic times, people have always bought U.S. bonds, for their safety.
But now, people are not buying the U.S. bonds.
Trust in the U.S. appears to be diminished.

And likewise, in uncertain times, people have tended to hold U.S. dollars, for their safety.
But not now.
Now they are holding something else, because we can see that the dollar is fading.
Again, trust in the U.S. is diminished.

Having both U.S. dollars and U.S. bonds fading at the same time signals ------> doom.

That entire sector tanked last week with the first tariffs announcement, made somewhat of a comeback for one day with the 90 day delay, and then dropped again the next day. Did you see the video of the WH meeting where Trump was boasting to some of his billionaire cronies about how much money he had made them the previous day? $Billions. I read somewhere that MTG was trading in these stocks like she had previous knowledge of what was happening.

This is called “insider trading” and is highly illegal. You can bet that the tech sector will jump again on Monday, enabling more insiders to sell what they bought at deflated prices and make even more of a killing.

But…you’re fine with that because he’s not Crooked Joe Biden and your wife’s retirement seems to be doing OK.

Then 125%.

Now in the last 24 hrs we have been told that electronics were declared to be exempt from the China tariff.

This little-known earthquake fault has been quiet. But it can unleash devastation across SoCal

The fault is capable of generating a magnitude 7.8 earthquake, said seismologist Lucy Jones, a Caltech research associate.

A particularly frightening, and plausible, prospect would be an earthquake that races up the Elsinore fault northwest onto the Whittier fault. That would "pour all the energy straight into the L.A. Basin. It's one of the scary earthquakes," Jones said.

That article appeared this morning in the LA Times, which we have delivered. It actually prompted me to write a letter to the editor which, unfortunately, I didn’t save (you write it on an online form) or I would copy it here.

Besides their usual clickbait imagining the worst possible scenario, which has never happened in recorded history, and assuming that we are in imminent danger, they often act like San Diego County is not part of Southern California or of any interest to any of their readers. On second thought I should probably be glad they’re ignoring us.

The map below was included as part of the article. Anyone who is familiar with this area can see that the map is cut off north of the county line in Orange County along the coast and Riverside County farther inland. The empty space where “Elsinore fault zone” is written is the Santa Ana Mountains in the north a Camp Pendleton in the south. The fault zone extends for miles past the end of the map, which doesn’t even show Julian, where the epicenter was. We live about 13 km south of the epicenter. The fault line runs basically along Interstate 15 and they list a bunch of cities along that line. Corona, Lake Elsinore, Murrieta, Temecula which is right on the Riverside County line a few miles north of here. As far as the Times is concerned, I guess the fault zone ends at the county line.

At least the writer acknowledged that Julian and the epicenter of the recent quake are in San Diego County, even though they couldn’t show it on the map.
