I spent about four hours on Thursday waving around a weed whacker and another four or five hours on Friday bent over pulling weeds, and cutting down and applying Roundup to a few weedy trees that have been springing up. Yesterday, after the Saturday morning trop to the farmers market and Costco, I spent most of the day resting my aching back.
Today...Masters Tourney and Padres baseball, trying to extend their lead in the NL West. The current record is an ML best 12-3 - tied for the best 15 game start in Padres history. Our best starting pitcher, Michael King, is going up against the Rockies, so chances look pretty good.
A few other plants started to bloom this week.
Romneya Coulteri (Matilija Poppy) and Ceanothus "Concha"
More Ceanothus "Concha"
Ceanothus "Ray Hartman"
Arctostaphylos "Moroensis" (Morro Manzanita). This isn't actually blooming but it's something I put in the ground about four years ago and it never grew, never bloomed at all until earlier this spring (just a few blossoms). It's a cool looking plant and always looked healthy so I've just been waiting. Suddenly it's putting out a whole lot of growth and new leaves.
Diplacus Aurantiacus (Monkey Flowers)
View from the front door. All of that green is weeds that I have to keep mowing and will be brown in probably six weeks.
Before and after weeding pics of the Salvia Spathacea (hummingbird sage)
