Then we need every future contract to be a cost +, not a firm fixed price contract. Congress loves them some firm fixed price contracts, but this leads to $1000 hammers and $500 ashtrays. Contractors have no clue what their costs will be in 8-10 years so they push everything up to protect their bottom line from the unknown.

This. Remove all deductions and lower the rates. Some minimum level of income tax should be paid by all. It doesn’t have to be much, but everyone needs skin in the game. Then move the tax brackets to 10%, 12% and 15%. Only tax capital gains when realized at these same rates.

Personally I would also like to see employer withholding removed so everyone knows the pain the IRS inflicts, but far too many of you would end up on a wage garnishment plan anyway.

If we moved to this, tax returns would be a page long, plus your income verification docs.
