Consider this.. They spent over $65 million for Starting pitching and ..

Randy Johnson - $15 million has a bad back and requires routine cartillage injections to his knees

Carl Pavano - $9 million - has been on the DL most of the year.

Kevin Brown - $15+ million - he has been a BUST since arriving in NY. His back is a wreck and he is an iodot! His wrist breaking locker smashing episode helped the Sox to win the Pennant last year and he's only gotten worse this year.

Jaret Wright- only $5+ million- not much expected from him this year and he made sure that he didn't deliver..

Chien-Ming Wang - Rookie minimum- The Yankees thought they found a winning lottery ticket with this guy... until he blew out his shoulder...

with all of these losses and along with having to deal with the steroid use, consequences and BALCO issues of Giambi and Sheffield along with Sheffield's tirades...

The Yankees are still in contention...

Well with the $150 million lineup they put out every night, they should be in contention! :roll:

When you score 10 runs a game you can get by with bad pitching. But come playoff time (if they make the playoffs) it'll be one series and done.

I don't think the Sox will be laying any new pavement in the post season either. Their pitching and hitting isn't much better.

If not a fluke, it certainly was an incredibly strange series of events.

W/ the money they spent on their talent I am not impressed that they are 9 games over .500. A-Rod, jeter, Sheffield, Giambi and Matsui. Dont really feel bad for those guys.

What is really sad is that any other team in the MLB that had their pitching woes would be in last place, b/c they wouldnt ahve the money to spend on hitters to combat their shit pitching. But, since their is no cap and the Yankees can spend all they want, they can overcome all those injuries and shell out $150 mil to stay competitive.

That's not a fluke, it's a flounder...aka Trout in these waters. Best recognize.

Such as what, finding ways to win games? Beating down the Cardinals? Those weren't strange events, it was just great baseball. Understandably Spankeefan is still bitter. I think Rizzo offed himself after that series. I don't think dude has been seen or heard from since.

Do you think Schilling, Lowe and Pedro are the only good pitchers we faced all year? The only pitcher that was truly dealing in that series was Pedro. He didn't just pitch well, he made us look stupid. The Cards always have issues with 1) pitchers with great movement and control and 2) pitchers where there isn't any video available (rookies). Schilling and Lowe fall into neither of those categories.

Before the Sox-Cards series we faced and beat this guy by the name of Roger Clemens. Think Schilling and Lowe are better than Clemens? In fact the Cards faced Lowe in LA a week ago and a team of replacement Cardinals went off on him.
