Weekend Roll Call 4-19-25

Post by kcdave »

AC/DC back on tour in the US.
Great vid, shitty audio. Props to this guy that likely
paid 1k or more for the ticket, then wasted the time to vid
instead of enjoying the show.

Fucking Pickle is back. How long before this ends badly
as it always does? How long before he sends me another
weird email?

Easter weekend. The shittiest of all the holidays
is back. Pretty sure I did my easter rant last year,
so no long winded diatribe today. Enjoy your mind fuck
fairy tale and ham again this year, thumpers.

FOC is basically a washout this weekend. Indoor grill
biz, and a little catchup for neglected duties will
garner most of my daytime attention. This evening
I plan to enjoy a little bourbon after a couple of weeks
of searching. Not to go all the way in the weeds, but
basically an old acquaintance, fb friend these days, that
is a total blowhard with a little cash to toss around, bought
himself a bottle of Pappy. That shit is no where in my tax
bracket, but like most things, I figured I could probably
find something in my range would taste similar. According to
some bourbon tasting snobs that I found on the youtube,
Weller and Larceny are both distilled from similar recipes and
worthy of being discussed in the same breath as the rare and
pricey PVW. While neither is aged as long, nor as smooth,
the flavor and scent profiles are supposed to be nearly the
same. Weller seems to be difficult to find, but after a little
searching, I was able to find a bottle. Larceny is available
at the local Total Wine. I will try to drop in tomorrow and
let you know my thoughts. My whiskey is pretty fucking
basic. Good old Gentleman Jack, Jameson, Wild Turkey,
Templeton, Four Roses, and the ridiculously under priced
Trader Joes bourbon. Looking forward to trying something
new.

Pretty solid meme week -

Rack Smackie and Tune Town. There are some TT listeners who don't post in chat or on the board, for example on Thursday: DangerMouse, Moonbeam, Moonrock, J-Crown, Moto Mike & Blonde Bull, Jim the Poolman & Tina, Stacks, Mike in Anaheim, SGV, Lolita & Kim, the Madeira clan of Matt, Melissa, Will, & Grant, Durango David, LV_Nomad, Bill in Houston, Alex in Arlington, mamamustanger, and Bill & Dale in Arlington.

Smackie, why don't they start posting? Have they talked about the board?

Wolfman get well. I'll be joining you watching baseball today, not sure if in person yet. I wanted to go to the LSU vs Alabama baseball game last night but my back was hurting too much. They play again this afternoon, LSU will go for the sweep, and hopefully I'll be there.

Today is race day for Improbable Luck. He's had some fast workouts recently, but he's up against some strong competition, so hopefully he can hang with them. We'll find out this afternoon.

Week one of Session ended, so far so good, but it has been busy. Successfully amended four bills in committees, and eight of our bills got thru their first committee votes. But that took long hours and it was physically and mentally exhausting. Back at it again on Tuesday.

Y'all have a good one.

About to leave for my Saturday morning appointments at the farmers market, Costco, and Petco. After that I get to install some pull out shelves in one of our cabinets. Hopefully Tune Town later.

Rugged, outdoorsy activity is on the agenda for the weekend, so we're tackling 'Sleeping Giant', Canada's mightiest mountain.
Current altitude: 9 ft.
Thinning atmosphere is wreaking havoc. Stiff breeze threatens to knock us back down the terrifyingly gentle slope. F*ck! Forgot cheese sandwiches at base camp. Not good.

Will update progression.

Need to swap out the old pressure regulator valve for a new one.

Good thing you don't have me working on that. If you did, your whole neighborhood would lose water for a month.

bc,

I’ve never been a smack artiste (Marcus Allen says whaaaa…?!)…so don’t expect an injection of brilliant repartee from me at this point.

Stumbling, bumbling, rumbling along is as good as it’s gonna get, I’m afraid.

Hopefully, maybe once a month or so, I contribute something worthy of a quick scan.

Thanks for the endorsement. I've plugged the chat room a few times during shows to try to convince listeners who aren't registered on the board to do so to gain access to chat and participate in the all the wackiness that goes on in there. Apparently, some folks are happy just to listen to the music without enjoying the charm and ambience of chat. Perhaps a more relevant question would be directed to those who ARE registered here, know when TT streams, have access to chat, and STILL don't listen or participate. Wtf is wrong with you people? That, of course, is a rhetorical question, since the obvious answer is that TT is simply not suited to everyone's tastes, nor does it strive to be. I don't expect most people to like it and care not if they don't. I won't say it's an acquired taste, but it takes a certain level of sophistication (or perhaps a lack thereof) to appreciate what the 'Town offers. I'm just glad that you and a few others come in regularly to sample its wares.

But, lemme reiterate that you do actually run more smack than you even believe, and you are capable of such. Otherwise I would not mess with you, even in jest. I have standards, you see. I do not smack non-combatants. I do not go after actual smack feebs.

That was the thing. People trade paint all the time and nobody even remembers an hour later.

The meltdown was just a giant bucket of chum in the water. There was no coming back from the frenzied pile on that ensued.

This week's bloom report -

Desert (or apricot) mallow - sphaeralcea ambigua
This started out maybe seven years ago as a single seedling near the top of the bank. It blooms every spring and then seems to die back to the ground in the summer, but it re-seeds itself every year.

Quite a productive weekend for me. Friday, got a shit-ton of yardwork done including spreading 400 lbs of lime on the lawn, finally getting to transplant my sweet peas beneath their trellises (been too cold of a spring so far), replacing the burners on the Weber, and splitting a last bit of wood that needed to be done.

Saturday, had the son/daughter-in-law and grandkids over all afternoon. Easter egg hunt around the yard, colored eggs, played out in the yard, then moshed on some pizza. Was wiped after those 6 hrs w/the overactive grandkids. But well-worth it.

Today, brother and his family over for ham and such. Another long day, but again, well-worth it.

Keep the garden pics coming, Mikey. Always like to see them. Mimulus might be pretty, but not very floriferous and quite sticky, as you prob know. About 20 years ago, a lot of breeding was attempted to refine this genus for the floriculture trade, but to no avail. Its bloodline is sooo Cali-climate based that it was never successfully bred for other climates in the US- i.e. more sales.

The playing with the grandkids was actually much more strenuous than anything else. They NEVER stop, but that's ok and I welcome it. It sounds like 400 lbs of lime is a lot, but in reality, that's only 10, 40 lb bags with the broadcast spreader. Took about 1 hr... but still a pain the ass.

You're right. They look great in the spring and early summer when they're blooming. But by late summer they pretty much look dead and I usually just cut them way back. They start sending out shoots and greening up by mid winter. The secret (well not really a secret) is to have a variety of stuff that looks good at different times, in addition to a lot of evergreen foundation plants. The area behind my pool is pretty much dominated by a few varieties of eriogonum (fasciculatum, gigantteum and aborescens) which bloom in late spring and look great all summer. They baccharis pillularis along the driveway blooms during the winter. Manzanitas (also a few of these behind the pool) start blooming in January and seemingly continue in different varieties until late April.

Here are some mimulus that I planted a couple of years ago along our pool slide. They're just getting started.

Image

I have a few in containers (the bee picture is one of them). I've been able to keep them green pretty much all year, though not blooming.

Tomas offered a take on something (I think it was about music), and you replied with a post that lightly mocked him. Your post was very mild smack. Routine for the waters we've all been sailing on for 2+ decades.

You threw in a Liberace reference, comparing tomas to Liberace.

And that was the end of tomas. lol

Comparing tomas to Liberace is completely appropriate, maybe even mandatory. I stand behind my decision, as you have described it.
