Egypt or Sudan – why does no one want Bir Tawil?
Starting in northeastern Africa is a 2,000sq-km (795sq-mile) uninhabited, arid piece of land that neither Egypt nor Sudan wants to claim as their own.

That is interesting. According to stuff I've studied, global conquerors avoided ruling all of Africa because the climate and terrain are not conducive to a single ruler. It took a consortium of European countries carving the continent into small, manageable pieces to conquer it and objectively, that still failed.

What a fascinating history. If I descended from slaves I would be honored to have come from such an incredible place. It's a tragedy to see the continent in such turmoil. ADOS really should put their energy into resettling the homeland rather than breaking into the Nike outlet on Floydsgiving. Imagine how much good they could do in the Congo. They could take the domestication techniques they've learned here and teach it to people who've been at war since I was a child. Is there a Give-Send-Go for expats to Africa? I'll donate. Let's fix this thing. Together.

Love me some geography nuances. There are so many that people aren't aware of. For instance...
-a part of Florida and Oregon are only one time zone apart.
-There is a small piece of Delaware that is across the Delaware Bay and attached to NJ.
-Angle Inlet, a part of Minnesota, is only accessible by boat from the US w/out going through Canadian customs. Otherwise, one would have to drive through customs.
-Same with Point Roberts, WA. Only accessible by boat from the US w/out driving through customs.
-The highest point in the contiguous US is Mt. Whitney. The lowest point is Death Valley. They are only 85 miles apart.
-Arkansas borders 6 states. You can drive south from Arkansas reach each of those 6 states.

When the treaty was negotiated, their maps were incomplete. Angle Inlet was supposed to be the point where the Mississippi River crossed into Canada. Problem is.. it didn't.

- in 1816, Fort Montgomery was constructed by the Madison administration on Lake Champlain, but on the wrong side of the border. When this was discovered, everyone fooked off sharpish. A renegotiated treaty saw the land in American hands twenty years later and construction resumed. When the crews returned, the entire fort had been dismantled and looted by the locals for the stone to build their houses. (toured the site, dead cool! )

LOL... bode Canada on that one. With that said, thanks for the intel. I have subsequently sent an email to Trump and multiple cabinet members. This should be rectified shortly.

It’s kind of strange that the southernmost point in California is quite a bit north of the northernmost point in Florida.

And maybe Louisiana as well?

As well as Reno Nevada being farther west than LA and San Diego.

Rather boring little state I live in. Only geographical thing we have that could be unique is the highest point in the state is not at the top of a mountain.

Bear Mt is the highest peak. The highest point is on the slope of Mt Frissell which has its peak in Mass.

Another thing that kinda sucks is that if you want to leave New England, you have to drive through that shithole to the west, NY. Or, I guess you could go up and around through Upper Mexico.

Yep. San Diego's latitude is on par w/Charleston's (or maybe Savannah's?, can't remember)

I got a little bit over my skis there. It more like NNE. But Reno, yeah.

And the coastline “north” of Santa Monica (Malibu) runs almost east to west.

Madrid (that’s in Spain) has almost the same latitude as New York City.

Well, here's one for ya about CT... If you travel North, South, East, or west from Stamford (whether by boat, plane, car, etc) you will cross into NY.

Um, no. Africa was always a tribal clusterfuck. The brief period of European colonialism was the best thing that ever happened to Africa.

When I was on Army active duty in 1960 we had orders to "saddle up" and go to the Congo to protect American interests there. The CIA assasinated the leader of the uprising and we were ordered to stand down. Tat's the way things were done then I guess.
The Cuban missle crisis had everyone ready to go. The Russians backed down from our naval embargo. Thanks.

According to the WHO's Africa office, the first outbreak in the town of Boloko began after three children ate a bat and died within 48 hours following hemorrhagic fever symptoms.
