You know what I like about this board? Not one single post reminding us of the true meaning of the holiday.

I'm doing my usual trip to Vermont. I'm pretty sure we'll be grilling meats at some point. Might stop and say hi to Bernie Sanders. Peace out see you all next week.

I remember when it was always on May 30th and many referred to it as Decoration Day. One time I drove my grandmother around to place flowers on her brother's graves.
Now it's just like another Monday off for bankers and government employees. Oh, except maybe traffic cops who will be working OT.

Whereas in my younger days it was a good reason to go to the lake, drink beer, ogle scantily clad girls and fish for crappie and/or bass. Nowadays, I might mow the yard. Or not. Nevertheless, paid holidays off from work do not suck.

I am going to Vermont tomorrow. Where are you going to be? The OL and I are going to the NE kingdom in our RV. NE Kingdom is what vermonters call their U&R.Going to a campground in Irasburg.

I'm going to be down in Middlebury for the most part. That we might do a day trip to Burlington. I will definitely see Bernie as he marches in the Middlebury Memorial Day Parade every year and we will be there to watch my nephews. If we get there early enough we can catch him if as he's walking up the parade route by himself. You can love or hate his politics but he is literally the most unpretentious human being I've ever seen in politics.

Bernie was in politics in the 70s which last I checked was 40 years ago. And you have to at least grudgingly admit that it takes a little bit of balls to run for Congress as a admitted socialist and to win.

I'll be fixing some halibut with salmoriglio sauce tonight. Will probably open a couple of bottles of Tablas Creek rose or the vermentino to go with it.

Tomorrow I'll get up early to start smoking a couple of pork shoulders. Probably pair with either syrah or zinfandel, or possibly the Costco brand Rutherford Meritage.

The wrist bands were felt necessary by some since there were 1700 homes in the development. Unlikely you would know everyone. But like I said the best thing is just not to be home on the 31st.

Now way in hell I would put that much thought into Halloween. My idea was to go to dinner and or a bar and let the night pass by. I will say the wrist bands were way over used in that 'hood. They did serve a purpose for the pools but after that they were just stupid.
