I have IE6. Until right now I could click on any type of video file and the file would open with Windows Media Player. And then I dl'd and installed Quicktime. Clicked on and played some QT files. However, when I now click on a non-QT files, the IE status bar says it is downloading the file and then it plays it in QT. I don't want that shit.

I uninstalled QT but IE keeps trying to play all video files in QT. WTF?

How do I get IE to auto open WMP to play selected video clips?

QT steals your file associations, unless you are careful.

Google "file associations" and you'll find umpteen sites describing how to change them back.

I reinstalled QT and then modified all of the MIME settings and file associations.

So how does one go about completely uninstalling QT? It appears to still be there using either the QT uninstall or Add/Remove in the control Panel.

Is the option to "Uninstall Everything" really a bad idea?

I personally haven't had too many problems with QT. What I will say is that certain programs will not uninstall everything. In DrD's case, it seems that QT didn't reset the old file associations. In other cases (not QT, but other programs) will often install secondary programs or even spyware, but when you uninstall the primary program, it leaves the secondary programs or spyware behind.
