That year, only 18.4 percent of the babies born in the United States were born to unmarried mothers.

Let's look at five places where births to unmarried women are high -- and five where they are low.

High: DC, Alabama, Mississipi, New Mexico, Louisiana
Low: Utah, New Hampshire, Colorado, Montana, Idaho


Pickle would tell us it's obvious what the problem is.

Some others would tell us that poverty is high and education low ---> in the areas where the birth rate to unwed mothers is high.
So we need to put more money (and emphasis) in education -- and continue to subsidize the poor, so as to help them deal with this issue.


Myself, I think it's the result of a pretty fundamental economic concept.

In the past 30+ years, I'm certain the welfare state has grown tremendously.
If you subsidize something, you get more of it.

We've subsidized the state taking over for "daddy," (or family) and we've gotten much more of this dynamic.

Not a problem in socialist states. Who wants women breaking water all over their nice, clean, capitol city? You know what that does to marble? It's like acid.
