Still no thread on the new Beck album, eh?

Alright then, I'll break the ice. Just picked it up today and I'm digging it after two full spins. There's been a lot of hype about the Dust Brothers working on this one again, which kind of worried me at first. I am more of a fan of Beck's mellow/acoustic/depressing-type stuff. Sea Change and Mutations are my two favorite Beck albums by a wide margin, so when I heard this one was more of a return to the Odelay sound, I wasn't getting my hopes up. But if anything, I'd say Guero sounds more like the perfect middle ground between Odelay and Sea Change. The songs are more eclectic than Sea Change, and the general tone is a lot more up-tempo, but it's not just Odelay Part 2 either. The main difference is, Beck actually sings on this CD, like he did on Sea Change, as opposed to the droning stoner-folk monotone of his older stuff. I'd have to listen to it more to give it a proper review, but those are my first impressions.

I'll check it out. I LOVED Sea Change and was bummed that his new album was going back to the funky stuff as well. But I'll take your word for it! :)

They accidently sent a copy Beck's new disc to the country station I work at along with kind of a "best of" deal that included everything from "Loser" up to a song or two from the new CD. I haven't had a chance to peep the dopeness of either disc yet, but I plan on doing it soon.
