I think she came to her senses.

She realized that getting the yob based solely on picking the right daddy, is prolly not a good idea. W out front should prolly helped her realize this.

My preference? Given the complete and utter shitstorm upstate is experiencing right about now, I'd prefer that an upstater get the yob. Toward that end, I'd propose the following names:

Maurice Hinchey
Brian Higgins
Louise Slaughter

Hinchey and Slaughter (the latter my former Congresswoman, until I moved in with my then-girlfriend, now-wife) have both shown an ability to win, consistently and big, in Republican-leaning districts. The only knock on Slaughter would be her age. She'll be 80 later this year, would be running her first statewide race at the age of 81 (assuming she intends to run for the remainder of the term), and, if she subsequently served a full Senate term of her own, would be nearly 90 by the time she left the Senate. She's pretty well-preserved for her age, both physically and mentally, but I'm not quite sure she'd be up to that.

A couple of generations of Americans were brought up being told at great lengths that communism/socialism was the devil itself, and it was worth hundreds of thousands of American lives (and plenty of people in that age range lost loved ones for "the cause) and countless billions of tax dollars to fight, since it was the most grave threat to the American Way of Life in our country's history.

We spent decades being programmed to this line of "proper thinking."

And now, I guess because Bush was a shitty president in a shitty time for our country, people who spent 20, 30, 40 years being brainwashed into a particular, narrow mindset are suddenly supposed to forget every political principle they ever held dear, and embrace socialism as our great savior?

I first heard her name mentioned in connection with this seat yesterday after I posted. I'm a little surprised. I expected Paterson to nominate either a bigger name, or someone who had been in the House a little longer than she has been. Still, nominating an upstater was a good move, I think.
