I thought the Clemente thing was a load of crap. The most nice baseball player already gets the Roberto Clemente award for excellence in the field of warm-fuzzies, now they gotta court the Latinos by further dragging his corpse back out. Bad enough the Latinos are trying to get his number retired across the league because... uhh... they like him a lot.

Only thing more full of crap was Scrapiron leaving two fat and dumpy hitters in the field in the 9th with Rolen and Andruw defending a one run lead from the bench. More 9th inning blown leads from relievers with Garner calling the shots. Not that scrapiron will have to worry about where the WS is located this year.

I thought the same thing about Buck. While I thought the whole Clemente episode should have happened before or after the game, right after it happened, I was like "WTF?" when he asked if everyone was ready for some fun.

It was situational baseball. With 2 outs, no one on and a 1 run lead, Cabrera was playing the line to stop a double or triple down the line that would have put a runner in scoring position. Had Rolen been in the game, he would have been playing the same way.

If it was situational Garner wouldn't have the fat scooter riding twins at 3rd and left. Rolen is good enough that he doesn't have to play the line. Its in his range. That toad Cabrera needs to have the ball hit right to him. Tell Hoffman not to throw any change ups and we're good.

So you guard against a double down the line. What about a double to the gap? I wonder how many doubles are hit straight down the line vs. bloop doubles, hits in the gap etc......So you guard against the double but can't get to the routing grounder which goes for a single, then they bunt him over or he gets there on a steal, pass ball, wild pitch etc....

Rolen might have been told to guard the line, but that means he still could have been in decent position to field a ball to his left. Cabrera's fat ass was basically straddling the thing.

There were two outs. Which means that bunts and stolen bases (especialy with Troy Glaus on first) were not part of the equation.

Glaus hit a ground rule double after Konerko hit the bases empty two out single prior to that. In any case, Cabrera was playing where he was supposed to. Scott Roiden may or may not have been able to get to the ball. Who knows. He would have been playing the line too, though.

I stand corrected on Glaus. The end result is the same. Cabrera or Rolen would have been playing the line and no manager in his right mind would be sending a guy to steal second unless he was a Rickey Henderson kind of base stealer. Which Jose Lopez and his 6 career steals is not.

Even here in Jasper the overwhealming buzz is he roided up. I'm very much involved, closely, with the Jasper Baseball program and those who run it. I've talked to many people who played with Rolen and are friends of his still. Anyone close to Rolen around here that I've talked to fully believes he's roided up.

Two shoulders injuries to the exact same spot. One stemming from the initial collision, the other coming from a reinjury of the same spot. You think those are due to roids?

Also, they are testing for the roids these days, yet he seems to be doing just fine. 14 HRs now puts him on pace for 28 this year... about his average. BA at .331. After surgery his throwing arm is back to amazing.
