Fave drummer thread .....
that's NOT Neil Peart ....j/k
Vinnie Colauita ( Frank Zappa , Sting , etc.) . Dude can play any time sig , play another over it , modualte phrases that sound faster but doesn't change tempo , then gets back into the original phrase .
Tony Williams ( Miles Davis Quintet , Lifetime etc. ) . He spawned a new generation ( Gadd , Vinnie , Bozzio , Steve and Smitty Smith ) of drummers post Blakey , Haynes , Philly Joe , and Roach . Just listen to the first Lifetime album . Everything you hear today is on that record .
Jack Dejohnette . Another groundbreaker post Roach and Blakey .
Gary Husband . Dude is nails with Allan Holdsworth
John Bonham . Took his Stax/Volt influence and changed rock drumming .
Topper Headon . The Clash were songwrting chameleons , and Topper played it all with taste , flair , and some chops . Also wrote one of thier biggest songs .
Stewart Copeland . You know him when you hear him . Unique , his time is a Swiss watch , and knows how and when to leave space and fill it . No one has his sound .

Probably because his body of work was one artist , Jimi , whose used Buddy Miles later and had just as much artistry as with Redding and Mitchell . Mitchell does deserve mention along with Moon , Bonham , Ringo , etc., and is in the Rock n' Roll HOF .The Assassin wrote:Mitch Mitchell always gets slighted.
There is a lot of rock drummers no one knows of really , like Jim Keltner , Sandy Nelson , or Hal Blaine , that were pioneers of rock music , mostly because they worked in the studio pool .

Max Roach
Keith Moon
Wille Green
Have a look at this google, to see what dude's been in with. I used to watch him in a Klezmer band, and with Kermit Ruffins.
