The Yellow Pages

Post by Softball Bat »

When was the last time you used the yellow pages?

A DVD player?
A FAX machine?
A real alarm clock?
A flip phone? - I still have one
Pay for a monthly land line? - I bet Wolfie does :)
Used a card catalog?
Have a KC Star newspaper subscription? - RIP, Wagon!
Used a phone booth?
Used a highway map?
Played a vinyl album? - Wolfie, Smackie?
Who wears a wrist watch?

You lose on one thing--ditched the land line some time ago, even getting MrsO used to her own cell phone. Don't have any vinyl, gave it all to my son in law in Buffalo who is a retro collector. I wear a wrist watch when I go any place for any length of time. It's a cheap Timex analog watch, good for a quick look see of the time. A lot easier that going to the hassle of getting my cell phone out of my pocket to see what time it is. I subscribe to the local fish wrap on dead trees, The Fort Myers News-Press, mainly for the puzzles, local sports, and a couple cartoons. Got a DVD player mostly for Mrs.O's work out DVDs. Been on line even before the www.com stuff. Used Alta-Vista before Google. Anyone remember "jughead" and "veronica" ? And I don't mean the cartoons.

A DVD player?
I recently moved a TV from the living room to the bedroom to make room for new one. Tested the DVD player when making the connections, but haven't actually used it in recent memory

A FAX machine?
No FAX machine but used email FAX services a few times in the past year or so.

A real alarm clock?
Does a clock radio count?

A flip phone? - I still have one
Still have a few in a drawer but not used for many years.

Pay for a monthly land line? - I bet Wolfie does :)
I have VOIP on Spectrum. Does that count? The wife isn't ready to give it up though 99.9% of the calls are screened and never answered.

Used a card catalog?
Haven't been to a library in years. I have an old rolodex stashed away but haven't looked at it in memory.

Have a KC Star newspaper subscription? - RIP, Wagon!
We still get the LA Times delivered. Also the weekly local "village news."

Used a phone booth?
Haven't even seen one in years.

Used a highway map?
We usually get a set of AAA maps for any road trip. They're quite useful when planning out a route (we're gonna take real soon). Helps to get an overall perspective that's not always centered on your immediate location.

Played a vinyl album? - Wolfie, Smackie?
Still have most of my old vinyl. Prolly a few months since I broke any out. I've also picked up a few limited edition pressings on Record Store days.

Who wears a wrist watch?
In. I use it a lot for timer functions, etc. A lot more convenient than using a cell phone.

A DVD player?
Funny, I just dug one out for the daughter as she got the Harry Potter DVD set for hannukah. Probably hasn't seen used in a decade, but it worked.

A FAX machine?
EFax at work, but rarely used.

A real alarm clock?
I use a clock radio.

A flip phone?
Uh, no, but some old ones in a drawer somewhere.

Pay for a monthly land line?
Magic Jack - VoIP for $39 a year, works just as well as Spectrum.

Used a card catalog?
Not since college days.

Have a KC Star newspaper subscription?
Local rag isn't worth it.

Used a phone booth?
I have an old payphone in my basement, I don't remember how it was acquired.

Used a highway map?
I keep an atlas in all the cars, I like a good paper map sometimes.

Played a vinyl album?
Not in decades :-(

Who wears a wrist watch?
Have a new Galaxy watch coming any day, have several "regular" watches at home, but haven't had a daily wear for a while (hence the Galaxy).

Good point.

If your phone is in your pocket most of the time you stand in contrast to what seems like 90% of the population that can't keep their eyes off their phone for 2 minutes.

Their phone is their god.

Got about ten in a drawer that haven’t been touched in years. What to do with them?

Pay for a monthly land line? - I bet Wolfie does :)
Huh? Why the hell would you bother?

Used a card catalog?
No. I have three library catalogs and their respective networks on my phone/computer

I have three daily papers delivered hard copy, and pay for several other online subscriptions.

During what decade of your life do you think America was at its best?

For me it was probably the 80s.

Since 9/11 there has been a steady decline -- and one could argue that the nation has never recovered from it.

Wasn't that laced with Something else like some opium derivative? Anyway, this one time . . . A long time ago . . .

We were driving back from someplace in Colorado, and had some thai sticks. Everything was fine until somebody decided to roll a joint out of the shake in the bag. In about 20 minutes we had to stop in Cortez, and try to regain control. Way too much something, way to high it was not fun. Guy who rolled joint kept yelling his heart was pounding. I was trying to breath. About an hour later we moved on. Probably "best" ever.

Good times.

Not sure how it would compare THC-wise, but it sure was damn tasty. Closest I've found anytime recently that compares to the flavor is a strain called Alien Orange Cookies. Really sweet & pretty stony.

Used a phone booth? Sometime in the 90s.
Used a highway map? I forget when. Maybe 2006.
Played a vinyl album? - Not since the late 90s

A real alarm clock?- wife still uses it.
A flip phone? - I still have one-Almost 7 years.
Pay for a monthly land line? - I bet Wolfie does :) -still have one
Used a card catalog?- at library? 7 or 8 years, maybe?

Used a phone booth? 10-15 years maybe?
Used a highway map?-a few months. Still like maps.
Played a vinyl album? - Wolfie, Smackie? Never had LPs. Played 45s as a little kid. By the time I got to Album buying age, they were cassettes.
Who wears a wrist watch?- 2.5 years ago on overnight backpacking trip with Boy Scouts to Mt Washington. Still have one, might wear at some time.

Brady has never been traded in his career. They have this thing called "free agency," and... nevermind.

Cam is likely in NE because the Pats needed a QB (badly), and Scam wanted a job.

Seems pretty simple.

His age.
And if you look at his numbers, it could have been imagined that he was in a decline from which he would not regain previous form.
