JaMarcus Russell eating himself out of a job?

Post by BSmack »

SI is reporting that Russell is closing on on KFC Paul on the weight front.
At this point, quarterback is again a concern, because no one knows if JaMarcus Russell is ready to take over the starting job. There are rumors that he's close to 300 pounds and not exactly prepared for his close-up.

Don Banks says 'rumors' are that Russell is at 3 bills, and J. Clayon sez that his 'source' claims Russell recently weighed in at 272.

So there ya go.

Nobody knows shit about Raider happenings, per norm.

Just print something garbage and hope a dipshit like BSchmuck runs with it.

When I saw Russell ON THE FIELD last season I never thought he looked fat, and I had been concerned about it.
He looked TALL to me.
He looked very .. solid, you might say.

Non-story.

You know as well as I do that this is anything but a non story.

Maybe he's not 300 lbs. Maybe he's "only" the 278 that Chris Mortensen is reporting that he is. The fact is, his listed weight is 255. When he showed up at the combine last year at 265 he was sporting the beginnings of a boiler. If he's added another 8-13 lbs of flab on top of that, this can't be good for the team that has mortgaged it's future on his abilities.

I think Russell would be better suited to play at 245. Dude is athletic, so trimming down would give him some extra mobility. If I am the coaches, get his ass on a strict diet and vigorous workout regiment when OTAs start.

Not for Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Ben Roethlisberger and most other players. Those guys get back to work with their off season workout programs before the combine started. It is downright stupid for a QB to fall behind in conditioning for the simple reason that it will take time away from efforts to get him up to speed mentally at his position.

The point is, Bri, it's the off-season, nobody KNOWS what his weight is.
They're guessing.
Besides that, it's common knowledge that he's a big boy who doesn't possess the prototypical NFL QB build.

If he shows up in August at 275 I'll be a little concerned.

Right now, this is a big 'fat' NOTHING.

I don't think he could get to 245, Rumps, unless they cut half his ass off.

The guy is just big.

So instead of eating Twinkies, Jamarcus should be eating windshields?
Personally I'd recommend some protein shakes, weights and film study.

8-8

.... for your team.

Norv sliced 3 games off of your '06 record, so don't forget that.
Look for Pineapple Head to work the same wonders in '08.

Oakland, on the other hand, ROSE by 2 games in '07.

You see where this is going.

Talk your shit now, hard-ass, because you'll be in NO mood to do so once the reality of Norv has fully set in.

This one will look good when I throw it back up in late December.

The Bolts might be the only team in the division with a winning record at the end of the season.
Honestly I gotta agree- NO WAY IN HELL the Chiefs get to .500, the Donks' defense is horrible, and the Raydahs are, well, the Raydahs.

The Bears prolly said something similar about the NFC North after the '06 season looked like this .....

Chicago 13-3
Green Bay 8-8
Minnesota 6-10
Detroit 3-13

Next thing you know, '07 looks like this .....

Green Bay 13-3
Minnesota 8-8
Chicago 7-9
Detroit 7-9

Things can turn very quickly in the NFL, and it's a fine line between a 'good' team and a 'bad' team.
A couple of key injuries, some poor coaching, and another team happening to find it's stride a bit, and you can be FUCKED in no time flat.

It's a long off-season and it's a long season.

Don't count yer chickens.

Tall stocky guys carry their weight MUCH better than tall skinny guys or shorter/regular-sized folks. All you have to do is put on a baggier jersey and no one will be able to tell that you've packed on an extra 20 LBs.

Just ask Shaq. Remember what he looked like when he first joined the Lakers? Sure, he could offensive-foul/dunk his way to 30 pts every night, but he wasn't getting any rebounds, because he was an overweight, tired, POS. Then he got motivated, dropped about 30 pounds and they won three rings in a row. And the thing is, if you looked at before and after pictures of the guy, you wouldn't notice a huge difference in his appearance. That's because when you way 330 and lose 30lbs, it's a hell of a lot different than a RB who weighs 225 losing 30lbs...obviously. So I guess I have to make a point here somewhere along the line, so I guess it's this: If J. Russell weighed 270 lbs and gained 20, would anyone really notice? Hell, that's what, a 7-8% increase in body weight?

RJack, it may be the off-season, but if you listen to NFL Network or any other affiliate that interviews top-notch players, they all say they take two weeks or so off at the end of the season and then get right back to work.

And no, JaMarcus holding a $20 bill in the air for ten seconds while a stripper squats down and picks it up with her snizz lips does not count as isometrics.

He (Russell) is having a phenomenal off-season. He came back 10 or 11 days before we even started and he was with our coaches and with our strength staff before we got back here and he hasnt missed a thing since. The rest of the guys are really here about 3-4 hours a day and he is here about 5-6 hours a day. He is here first thing in the morning, he has position meetings and then he goes and lifts and then he runs back in to change and goes back out to throw with the guys. By far, he is in the best shape I have seen him, even if you go back to his pro day at college. I know he is really excited about the upcoming season as well.
